Oroville 56, Liberty Bell 54 (OT)
Game 3. (Winner to regionals, loser out)
At Brewster, WA

The Oroville boys had plenty of drama Tuesday in a dramatic 56-54 overtime win over Liberty Bell in a North Central District 1A loser-out game.
Sophomore Zach Kinman sank both his free throws with one second left in the overtime period to seal the win for the Hornets.
“He stepped up right like he was an upper classman,” Oroville coach Carl Ivenson said. “That kind of saved our bacon.”
The Hornets found themselves down by three with ten seconds remaining. After a timeout, Oroville failed to execute the designed play, but Pierre David grabbed the rebound and shot it out to Nick Guitierrez, who sank the 3 as time expired, extending the game.

Brewster 96, Lake Roosevelt 25
Game 4. (Winner to state, loser to regionals)
At Brewster, WA

BREWSTER — Michael Taylor wasn’t used to seeing his dad so fired up before a game.
Taylor’s father, Brewster coach Tim Taylor, put some extra pep in his pre-game talk before Thursday’s District 6 championship against Lake Roosevelt.
“That was the first time he’s been pumped up all year,” Michael Taylor said. “He was pacing before the game. He was saying they (Lake Roosevelt) are not going to score — that we were going to take them out of their game and play our game.”
It worked.
The No. 1-ranked Bears put the pedal to the metal in the first quarter and shellacked the Raiders 96-25 in front of a packed house at their home gym.
Brewster moves on to the state 1A tournament beginning Wednesday in Yakima. Lake Roosevelt will play Freeman in a loser-out regional tournament game at 3 p.m. Saturday at Brewster.
Look out, Brewster foes at state.
Tim Taylor said his team is playing its best basketball of the season. The Bears have returned from Yakima with the state championship trophy in two of the past three years.
"It was a tremendous display of defense and good ball movement on offense,” he said. “We’re on the attack all the time. We feed off our defense.”
Michael Taylor scored 16 of his 26 points in the first quarter as Brewster took a 24-3 lead. Taylor, an all-state senior guard who is headed to Eastern Washington University next year to play college ball, used spin moves, quick acceleration and jaw-dropping crossover fakes to get open looks. The Bears pressed on defense and scored in flurries in transition.
“The faster we play, the better we play,” Michael Taylor said.
After Clay Gebbers hit back-to-back 3-pointers in the second quarter, the score was 42-3. Brewster led 55-7 at the half.
The Bears outrebounded Lake Roosevelt 44-12 and forced 21 turnovers, committing just four.
The No. 1-ranked Bears shared the wealth with five players scoring in double figures. Gebbers and Chase LaMoreaux each scored 14 points. Nate Burgher had 12 and Rocky Gipson chipped in 10. Tim Taylor said his team thrives on its cohesion and unselfishness.
“We have no big egos,” he said.
Brewster made the extra passes and finished with 19 team assists.
Conversely, Lake Roosevelt struggled to locate teammates against the Bears’ aggressive defense and finished with one assist. Sophomore Coby Dick scored seven points in the loss.
But Lake Roosevelt wasn’t alone on the wrong side of a lopsided game against Brewster. The Bears have outscored the opposition by an average of 79-48 this season. Brewster’s only loss came in its Dec. 10 opener at Bellevue Christian — the same team that beat Brewster in last year’s state championship game in overtime.
Tim Taylor said his team will enjoy the extra days off to rest before the state tournament. Michael Taylor said it won’t be very relaxing, however, because the team has stepped up its practice intensity.
LAKE ROOSEVELT (10-12) - Adkins 1, Seekins, Salas 5, Tohee 2, St. Pierre 5, Jim, Carlson 2, Dick 7, Heintz, Jess, Pleasants 3, Payne.
BREWSTER (21-1) - Benson 2, Mariscal 1, W. Gebbers 6, Sattler 5, McCormack 6, C. Gebbers 14, Gipson 10, Burgher 12, LaMoreaux 14, Taylor 26.
