Cascade 58, Lake Roosevelt 52
-Game 3-
Apparently, the Cascade Kodaiks
have ice pumping through their collective veins.
For the fourth time in five games, the Cascade boys basketball team was
facing elimination and came through with a clutch victory. Blaine
Dawson scored 23 points on Wednesday to lead the Kodiaks to a 58-52
win over Lake Roosevelt in a win-or-go-home Caribou Trail League district
matchup at Chelan High School.
Lake Roosevelt came out in a triangle-and-one defense in an effort to slow
Kodiak star Rand Stevens.
"We had some other guys step up," said Cascade coach Paul
Fraker.
Dawson did.
He made 2-of-3 from 3-point range on his way to posting a career-high.
Stevens finished with nine points and a team-high seven rebounds.
Cascade led 30-23 after Fialele Coffin hit a 3-pointer at the
halftime buzzer.
With its back against the wall, Lake Roosevelt fought back and cut the
deficit to one early in the fourth quarter before the Kodiaks pulled away
for good. Cascade helped its own cause by sinking 14-of-18 from the free
throw line.
Defensively, the Kodiaks fronted Lake Roosevelt's Matt Pleasants.
It helped limit Pleasants to seven points.
"We played some pretty good defense and we looked to run a little
bit," Fraker said. "Dawson was really the story tonight."
Cascade will play in a loser-out, winner-to-regionals game against a
Spokane-area school Saturday at 4 p.m. in Chelan. Their opponent is yet to
be determined, Fraker said.
