Chelan 69, Brewster 50
-Game 8-
Perhaps the Chelan girls
basketball team felt it had something to prove.
After all, the Goats were the number one seed in the Caribou Trail
League district playoffs due to a preseason drawing, despite tying
for the CTL league championship and splitting their season series
with Brewster.
Chelan put any doubts about its top seed to rest on Saturday,
however, with a sound 69-50 win over the Bears in the district
championship game.
"We just played a great game," Chelan head coach Dane
Lewman said. "Even though we played a bad game (a 53-50 win
over Tonasket on Friday), they came in and they were real focused
(Saturday)."
Brewster's Kyla Evans scored a game-high 28 points, but
Lewman said the Goats made sure Evans didn't have easy opportunities
to score. "(Chelan forward) Izzy Barth played real well
on Evans," he said. "When (Evans) did get looks, they were
looks that were contested."
Kristin Schramm led the Goats attack with 26 points, six
rebounds and three assists. "(Schramm) played possessed,"
Lewman said. "She was going to work her butt off to make sure
we won (Saturday). ... Good things happen when a player like that
shows up on both ends of the floor."
Barth chipped in 12 points and six boards for Chelan while Martha
Taylor scored nine points and Evans grabbed eight rebounds for
Brewster.
Chelan will play Chewelah in the regional playoffs at home Tuesday.
Brewster will host Freeman on Tuesday. |
