Ephrata 56, Okanogan 39
Game 1.
At Ephrata, WA

Ephrata produced the only one-sided victory of the first round and coach Van Morgan felt it was his team's aggressiveness on the boards that made the difference.
Ephrata owned a 35-13 advantage on the boards in the first half, and the lead on the scoreboard, 30-19, as well.
"Our rebounding was the story of the ball game I felt," said Morgan. "The kids went out with intensity from the beginning and played real aggressive."
Ephrata's Bonnie McLauchlin pumped in 20 points, high for the tournament in the first round, and grabbed 20 of the Tigers' 54 rebounds. Okanogan had only 25 rebounds.
Renee Compton also had a big game for Ephrata, netting 11 points and 13 rebounds, 11 in the first half. Wendy Bannon added 10 points for Ephrata.
Okanogan's first unit managed only 13 points but Margaret Anderson came off the bench to take Bulldog scoring honors with that same total.
"Okanogan played a real aggressive man-to-man defense against us," said Morgan. "I thought they did a good job. They never gave up the whole way."

Lake Roosevelt 41, Quincy 37
Game 2.
At Coulee Dam, WA

It may have been number 2 (Lake Roosevelt) against number 7 (Quincy) on paper, but the visiting Jackrabbits gave Nita Valdez' Raiders all kinds of problems for more than three quarters.
Quincy held four-point leads at the first two stops, and still clung to a 26-24 advantage entering the final period.
That's when Lake Roosevelt's Leslie Selle and Mary Mueller went to work. They combined for 13 of the Raiders' 17 fourth-quarter points to make sure their team got into the winner's bracket.
"Offensively, we didn't warm up until the fourth quarter," said Raiders coach Valdez. "They're zone (a 2-1-2) really bothered us."
Mueller and Selle finished with 12 and 11 points, respectively, to pace Lake Roosevelt.
Pam Young, who "really shot the ball well" according to Valdez, and Kelly Grigg each totaled 12 points for the scrappy Quincy crew.

Quincy (11-8) - Grigg 12, Tami Young 6, Jones, Pam Young 12, Konen 4, Ambriz, Hewitt 3, Street.
Lake Roosevelt (13-5) - Barnaby 2, Mueller 12, Michaud 4, Frost 6, Selle 11, Vargas, Ware 6.

Chelan 33, Omak 31 (OT)
Game 3.
At Chelan, WA

Chelan's donnybrook victory over Omak was triggered by outstanding team defense in the second half, a clutch basket by Traci Huffer with five seconds to play in regulation and pressure-packed performances by Gee Gee Goble and Elizabeth Goulet in the overtime.
Omak carried a 22-12 lead into the locker room at halftime, but the Pioneers managed just nine more points in the next 19 minutes.
After Huffer's heroics had tied the game in regulation, Teri Desautel put Omak ahead by two in the overtime but the determined Goats weren't to be denied.
With a minute left, Goble hit two free throws, deadlocking the game again, and then it was Goulet coming through with a baseline shot 45 seconds from the end.
Goulet's basket proved to be the winner when both teams turned the ball over and a Pioneer shot sailed wide with five seconds left.  The clock ran out during the scramble for the rebound.
"Our shots just weren't going in at the beginning," said Chelan coach Chris Griffiths. "We started playing better defense (in the second half) but mainly the lid came off (the basket) for us."
Candi DeWitz led Chelan's attack with 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds. Goble picked off 13 rebounds for the Goats and reserve Laura James "came in and did a real good job," said Griffiths.
Lori McCormack paced Omak with 13 points and Desautel wound up with 11.

Game 4.
At Cashmere, WA

After an even first half, Sue Gasbar's  Cashmere crew took command behind the scoring of the scoring of Shelly Strutzel and the all-around play of reserve Michelle Robertson.
Strutzel produced nine of her 13 points in the second half to help Cashmere pull away from a 20-20 halftime tie.
But it was the hustling work of Robertson that played a major role in the win. Robertson not only scored 13 points, six in the second half, but also led Cashmere with 11 rebounds and did a good job defending Tonasket standout Sandra Pilkinton.
Pilkinton did score 19 points but worked hard enough to get them.
Fawnda Wannschaff also came through brilliantly for Cashmere, contributing 12 points.
"Tonasket did a good job with their man-to-man defense, " said Cashmere coach Gasbar. "We have been playing real well but tonight we were a little nervous."

Tonasket (9-10) - Fisher 3, Mills 4, McIntyre 9, Hedlund 6, Pilkinton 19, Caddy, Stotts, Halsted.

Ephrata 45, Lake Roosevelt 42
Game 7. (Semifinal)
At Omak High School

Ephrata dominated the first 25 minutes of action before the Raiders rallied to make the contest a thriller of the day.
With seven minutes left to play the Tigers held a commanding 38-23 advantage, but Lake Roosevelt cut the lead to 42-40 and a chance to tie with 1:20 remaining.
But Wendy Bannon stole an in-bounds pass and drove the length of the floor for a 44-40 Ephrata lead.
Mary Mueller's basket at the 38-second mark cut the lead to 44-42, but Bonnie McLauchlin hit the front end of a one-and-one with six seconds left to ice the win.
"It was a total team effort," said Ephrata coach Van Morgan. "They really did it in the clutch."
"I knew Lake Roosevelt was going to comeback," he added. "That's a good ball team. We played real well for three quarters and then had an emotional letdown in the fourth quarter. But we didn't fall apart.
"We're on our way to Ellensburg."
It'll be the fourth straight trip to state for Ephrata. The last two were in Class AA.
McLauchlin tossed in a game-high 14 points and hauled down 20 rebounds, a tremendous force all games long for the Tigers. Bannon hit for 14 points, mostly along the base-line against Lake Roosevelt zone.
Lisa Barnaby, who hit the first basket of the game (a 20-footer) before the Raiders missed 15 field goal attempts in a row, made five steals in the fourth quarter to spark Lake Roosevelt's charge from behind.

Cashmere 39, Chelan 31
Game 8. (Semifinal)
At Omak High School

Chelan grabbed a 3-0 lead, but Cashmere ran off 10 straight points, six by Shelly Strutzel, and the led the rest of the way.
Still, the Goats stayed close with Gee Gee Goble and Traci Huffer scoring effectively.
The lead was just 31-29 with three minutes to go, but Goble picked up her fifth foul and the Bulldogs began to pull away. Strutzel hit five of six free throws in the last minutes to secure the triumph.
"We came out the third quarter and hit those three quick ones (by Fawnda Wannschaff, Strutzel and Sheryl Parkins), and that perked us up a little," said Cashmere coach Sue Gasbar. "We made a lot of bad fouls and had passing problems.
"We had never won a game in this gym, and the kids had a psychological thing about it. This was a big win for us."
Strutzel netted 16 points and Wannschaff tossed in 10 to lead the Bulldogs to their third win of the season over Chelan. Goble scored 12 and Huffer 11 for the Goats.

Chelan got a 10-point effort from sharp-shooting Traci Huffer, with Elizabeth Goulet and Gee Gee Goble netting eight apiece and Angie McDonald added six.
The Goats couldn't hit against the Quincy zone, and went the first four and one-half minutes before scoring their first points of the fourth period.

Lake Roosevelt 44, Quincy 39
Game 11. (Winner to state loser out)
At Omak High School

Lake Roosevelt didn't score its first field goal until the five-minute mark of the second quarter but the Raiders held together until Mary Mueller started finding the range.
Quincy led 6-1 after one period and 20-13 at the half, but the Jackrabbits got two starters into foul trouble and Mueller took advantage of the situation in a hurry. She scored 14 of her game-high 22 points in the second half, 10 of them in the fourth quarter.
The Raiders cut their deficit to 27-25 by the close of the third stanza and took the lead for good one minute into the fourth quarter.
In addition to Mueller's scoring effort, Lake Roosevelt used an effective full-court pressure defense, sparked by Valerie Vargas, to wear down the Jackrabbits.
Pam Young played a brilliant game for Quincy, finishing with 19 points and Diane Hewitt came off the bench to toss in eight.

Ephrata 43, Cashmere 32
Game 12 (Championship)
At Omak High School

Ephrata won the battle of the orange from Cashmere, 43-32, to claim the North Central District "A" girls basketball championship.
A tremendous second-half performance by junior Bonnie McLauchlin carried the Tigers past Cashmere.
McLauchlin, held scoreless in the first period and to just four at the half, pumped in 10 points in the fourth quarter and finished with 20.
"They used a box-in-one on Bonnie but the other kids kind of contributed in the first half." said Tiger coach Van Morgan. "I was pleased with the way the kids played. The played tough defense and we changed it up on them. We did what we set out to do: not try to shut anybody off just cut down on their point production."
Even with McLauchlin bottled up in the first half, Ephrata, thanks to some key baskets by Jenny Pheasant, led 20-17 at the half.
Shelly Strutzel popped in 16 points for Cashmere and Carrie Franklin added eight.
Ephrata, after a mid-season slump, regrouped to claim the title they held in 1976 before spending two seasons in the Frontier "AA" League.
"I'm real pleased with them the way they came back this year," said Morgan. "They wanted that (district) medal. That was ral important to them."

Ephrata (15-6) - Pheasant 8, Compton 5, Bannon 4, Moore, McLauchlin 20, Allen, Nelson, Lehmann 4, Yenney 2, Fuchs, Yerigan.
