Chelan and Kodiaks atop CTL girls hoops

Once again the Chelan Goats are the team to beat in Caribou Trail League girls basketball.  Returning for the Goats are senior Kelli Bowers, 1st team all-CTL, who averaged 11.2 points per game last season; junior Jaicee Harris, 1st team all-CTL, averaging 9.8 a game last year. Then there is center Houston Robison, (2nd team all-CTL), with a 5.0 ppg. average.  In the last three seasons (68-18 record) the Goats have made state tournament appearances placing 6th in 2007 and taking 5th place last year.

There used to be a time when the Cascade Kodiaks was not only a league powerhouse but a state one as well. If last year was any indication then it would appear they could be on their way back to those glory days of success in the girls basketball program.  Senior Leah Newell led the Kodiaks in point production last year scoring 11.1 ppg.  She also made 1st team all-CTL as well. Senior Amber West (6.9 ppg) and junior Jordan McGregor (4.9 ppg) also return from last year's 18-8 team.

The Lake Roosevelt Raiders have a new-old head coach taking the reigns from Billy Nicholson.  Jaci (pronounced Jackie) Gross served as the girls basketball coach during the 2000-01 campaign when the Raiders finished 4-15.  She also served as the junior varsity coach last year. She will have two seniors, no juniors and six sophomores back.  Moyatat Bell-Bart and Brianna Salas head up this year Raider squad. Dominique Pleasants and Roweena Antone produced for Lake Roosevelt as freshman last year and will see plenty of court time this season.
