| Mr. Campbell, I have a thought. Maybe you should think about what you say about other's peoples business. I doubt you have any idea what prompted the Pendergrafts, Evans, Hills, and McCormacks decision to move to Brewster. You should be happy that the CTL was well represented at the State Tournament with 2 state titles and another second place. Instead of making it look like the Brewster Bears didn't outright win the state championship, you should do something to honor these fine young men and women who spent countless hours preparing for the test last week at the Sun Dome. In all fairness to your thoughts and comments on our victory, you should think about what you write or talk about it until you know the truth. This would lead to much better reporting and maybe more people would enjoy visiting your website. Thank you for your time and I am hoping that you will reply and inform me of your stance on this matter. Sincerely, Ryne Phillips #3 P.S. I would like to say that we are the state champs, and no matter what you say or write, the people in Brewster do not care, we won the championship fair and square. I guess you could say we DOMINATED the other teams. |
| It was the year 2000, my husband and I were sitting behind the Hills and in front of the Pendergrafts. Okanogan was playing Brewster at Brewster gym. Comments started flying back and forth between these two families. Such as, if you want to be a part of Brewster take you darn business with you. That was the nice version. This continued through out the game which was making
a lot of people uneasy. Now the game is over and these families are in each others faces yelling, swearing and pushing. It was quite a scene and people could not believe what they were seeing and hearing. What an example these so called adults showed the kids. Pretty ironic wouldn't you say since the shoe is on the Hills feet now. I guess one can say that Okanogan is the training camp for these loyal families and kids. Thank you for your opinion and let it be known that it is the same opinion of many fans for Okanogan High School. Go Bulldogs!!!!!! |
| Sean, As I have read the emails have you written Andy Hill and I, I have realized that the stuff you say about us recruiting student-athletes from other towns is not true. You said that the parents of these student-athletes were offered jobs and houses and money, well I beg to differ. No parent of a student-athlete has been offered jobs or money to get their kids to move to Brewster. Take Andy Hill for example, he lives in a 2 bedroom apartment near the Harmony House and his dad still maintains his job in Okanogan as Postmaster. Now how does that show proof that they were offered jobs and money? Say there was a successful business, wouldn't people who wanted to work for this successful business risk leaving another place to get a job at this successful business? I think so, and that is why people are moving to Brewster. They are moving here because Brewster has a history of being successful, not only in sports, but off the playing field in the classroom. Now what is wrong with that, what if people are moving here to have there kids in a better environment. That is not wrong. That is called doing what is best for your kids. I know that if I lived in another place and I was a highly touted student-athlete that I would ask my parents if I could enroll at Brewster High and play sports there. I know I wouldn't be the only doing this either. You are taking this supposed "recruiting" thing way too serious and you are looking at it the wrong way. What is going on in Brewster is not cheating, never has been and it never will be. Thank you for your time once again. Sincerely, Ryne K. Phillips #3 |
| Dear Sean: I've been reading the "rebuttals" in reference to the Andy Hill Fiasco (it's pretty obvious that's the "real grind" here) and just want to say that I perceive that the real problem here is that an extremely nice young man made the decision that he no longer wanted to be part of a school that appears in a state of decay in more than one respect. I have no personal connection to the Okanogan School and/or its sport program but have over a long period of time heard constant comments as to the mess it's in. I don't know Andy Hill but I do know by virtue of his wide spread reputation that he is a first class young man and a first class sport figure. That is in great part due to his family's support and assistance over the years and I think that the silly flap over his going to school in Brewster is a poignant statement on the small town minds that thought he should remain in a school no longer able to provide a first class education so that he could make the basketball team at Okanogan a winner. It's really only the business of Andy Hill and his family as to why he went to school in Brewster! As for screaming matches, Cheryl Hill was never part of any screaming match and if Larry Hill was, then maybe it was because he was sick and tired of everyone else thinking that they had the right to make life decisions for his son. I think it's time that you all grow up and let it go. Andy Hill isn't going to play basketball here anymore. It's my understanding that he's headed for pretty great things and it's also my understanding that he more than deserves them. Penny Hoffman |
| Sean, I graduated from Tonasket High School in "99". I was a member of the basketball team. I remember that there was controversy with Brewster recruiting players back then. They were said to have recruited Mark Brown and Cody Gunn. Brown coming from Bridgeport and Gunn coming from Lake Roosevelt I think. My point is the rumors of Brewster recruiting players were around when I was in high school and they are still around today so there must be some truth to them. Mitch Poore |
| To Cheryl Hill, You are allowed to have the opinions that you do, however, Sean never made a personal attack towards you and you should be ashamed that you acted so immature as to attempt to degrade him and attack him in a personal manner. |
| I could not agree more with your assessment of the Brewster sports programs, It is so very unfortunate that these young men are choosing to shortcut the processes of life in search of temporary gratification in the form of wins and championships. It is unfortunate that they will miss out on the character building that goes on in the heart of a true champion. I do not lay the blame solely at their feet however. There are so many adults involved in this prostitution of youth that it makes my heart sick. Where are the parents who want to develop character and integrity in their children? Are there any in Brewster? Why would you hold kids back in elementary school to "group" athletic kids together for "success" in their sporting days? Where is the administration and athletic director? Obviously they are right in the middle of it and the "city fathers" are the ones who control things and run the town. What a shame, I am glad that I do not live there and will choose to teach my son honesty, integrity, commitment, and hard work and he will be a better person for it. Jeff Click |
| I think that Cheryl is a little out of line about bringing up ones mental state on mind. That has nothing to do with what he wrote about in the Brewster program. All of it was basically the truth anyway you want to look at it. Coming from the Okanogan School District (which
I am currently attending) I don't see what would be so much better at Brewster than would be here. Yeah the coaches there only get paid 1$ for working, but do you honestly think that they're going to work as hard as they can only getting 1$ out of it? No matter what you say money does influence people and how hard they're going to work at their job. You're right you have the choice to pick up your kids and move them as you please but why to Brewster? What do they have there that isn't in Okanogan. It sure isn't the money and it sure isn't the better education so what is it then? I think your using the better education as a big excuse to go there for what you really went there for....sports. If Okanogan still would of had all of their kids that are now in Brewster think of how good we would of been this year. It's not about being on the winning or losing team, it's about how you take it all when it comes at you. Everything isn't easy you have to work at it to make it become what you want it to be. And where do you think your coming from saying how no one here puts in any extra effort like Brewster does to become as successful as they are? Do you know how often every kid goes to the gym, or how often they go out of town to camps to improve? I really don't think you do. Not everyone has the money to fund for it, or the natural talent that other kids are blessed with, and until then I don't think you should say anything about that unless you truly know. What does Kelli Attridge and Kylan Hulsing have to do with anything, their not picking up and moving to be on a better sports team or because of school issues, for all you know they could be having family issues and they may just need to get away for awhile. As compared to Andy, David and Brodie who still continue to live with their family so you know it wasn't family issues and they seemed to be doing well is school so you know it wasn't that either. So what really is the reason for them to be down there? Really I would listen if you would tell me an honest answer. It's kind of funny thinking of last years baseball games seeing Cheryl commenting on how stupid all of the stuff going on in Brewster is and she wouldn't put her kid through that....well Cheryl, time to face reality your putting your kid through it as we speak. It's funny you bring our Elementary Principal into it saying how he had bad sportsmanship or whatever you think he was doing....think back to districts at Okanogan, yeah wasn't that long ago, Brewster wasn't number 1 in something and they would have none of it. They wouldn't even except the second place trophy....now you want to talk sportsmanship there, the coach is just as much to blame for it because he wouldn't even go out there and except it either. Then on top of all that go back and trash the Okanogan locker rooms when Okanogan had absolutely nothing to do with. Yeah, Okanogan fans are upset with what parents like you are doing to our school and our sports programs. Do you thing were to blame for it though? Yeah, I guess you are only human and you do make mistakes to, but the first step is admitting to it and I don't see you or Larry ever giving in to it. Sincerely, A PROUD OKANOGAN STUDENT |
