It is important to understand that the win-loss record should not and cannot be used to judge or reflect a coach's ability to have effectively taught or coached the overall educational goals and objectives set by that school district for athletics.  The overall win-loss record is merely an average of the talent pool during that coach's time-span.  In no way, can this chart to be used to rank coaches in order " from best to worst".

OMAK COACH RESIGNS

Posted January 25, 1995

OMAK - Scott Culbertson resigned Tuesday as the head coach of the Omak varsity girls' basketball program.
Culbertson, who succeeded Lynn Holder following her resignation last August, cited health problems as the basis for his decision.
"I'm just having some health problems. The basketball and the teaching aren't helping me at the moment, so I had to give one up," Culbertson said.
Culbertson is an eighth-grade math teacher at Omak Middle School.
Bryan Behymer, who had coached Omak's C-squad for five years and the junior varsity this season, will take over as head coach for the rest of the season.
Culbertson previously served four years as head coach for Omak until 1989, taking the Pioneers to fourth-and seventh-place finishes at the Class A state tournament during that span. He later served as Holder's assistant coach.
The Pioneers were in fifth place at 5-6 in the Caribou Trail League and 7-8 overall this season under Culbertson.

OMAK _ Veteran assistant coach Lynn Holder has been picked to replace Gary Smith as Omak High's girls' basketball coach.
Holder was an assistant under Smith for three years and previously had coached the C-squad. She is an elementary school counselor in the Omak school system.
The hiring still must be approved by the Omak school board, which meets on Aug. 25.
In June, Omak decided not to rehire Smith, a veteran coach in girls' basketball and girls' track. Last month, Smith filed a lawsuit against the school district, attempting to be reinstated to both coaching positions.
A ruling last week in Okanogan County Superior Court cleared the way for the school district to hire new coaches for each position, pending final disposition of the lawsuit.
``It's been a long, hard summer on everybody, now it's time to move on,'' said Jim Brucker, the high school's athletic director.
Omak probably won't fill the track position until school starts, Brucker said.
Smith was also a longtime football coach at Omak until his resignation from that position in May. Last week, Omak picked Mark Mansell, 32, to fill that position. Mansell was a head coach at Athena, Ore. for two years and assistant at Shadle Park in Spokane for four years.
